GI-Relief's aloe vera ingredient comes from the inner fillet of the aloe vera plant, which avoids this effect. Similarly, licorice root preparations, which support the stomach and duodenum,* can cause blood pressure to rise in some individuals when given in higher amounts. Therefore, the licorice in GI-Relief has had its glycyrrhizin removed, which prevents increases in blood pressure.* GI-Relief also contains slippery elm bark (Ulmus rubra) and marshmallow root (Althea officinalis), both of which contain mucilaginous components that can soothe the digestive tract.* To soothe esophageal irritation, GI-Relief can be taken out of the capsule and mixed with warm water to drink as a tea.*
